Dear King’s Ridge Christian School Parents,
So much has changed in the global and national landscape related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) since my last email earlier this afternoon. The number of event cancellations, drastic alterations to sporting events and leagues, the growing number of colleges and universities that are moving to online classes for the foreseeable future, and President Trump’s address to the nation last night have led all of us to pause and come to grips with the seriousness of the worldwide crisis we are facing.
As you are aware, we have taken numerous precautionary measures over the past several weeks to limit the potential spread of COVID-19 at KRCS, and there is no imminent threat to our school. While we do not want to panic or overreact, we also want to be good citizens of our community, state, and nation in doing what is reasonable to protect our students, faculty and families as much as possible.
This afternoon Governor Kemp and the Georgia Department of Public Health urged local schools, childcare centers, and public workplaces to impose self-quarantines in an effort to contain any further outbreak of the COVID-19 virus. After discussion with our Board of Trustees, we have made the decision to hold classes tomorrow, Friday, March 13, for one final day of preparations before we close KRCS for the next two weeks or until further notice. We have been working diligently to prepare for the possibility of distance learning and have made significant headway in refining our plan. However, we believe it would be beneficial to have one last day of instructional learning tomorrow to prepare our students and teachers moving forward.
If your child is unable to attend school tomorrow, all Lower, Middle and Upper School students will receive instructions for virtual learning from their teachers via Schoology. We are thankful that all are prepared to continue learning experiences for our students through this quarantine time.
KRCS does not take this decision lightly and understands this is an inconvenience to our families, but we believe these precautions will keep our faculty, students, and extended family members safe, while hopefully preventing spread of disease in our area. We urge our families to practice recommended "social distancing" strategies to help our local community more quickly eradicate the threat of coronavirus. Our goal is to cooperate with authorities, and hopefully get back to school as soon as possible.
The Upper School One Acts event and all after school practices and games scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, March 13, have been cancelled. All activities, including athletics, will be cancelled for the duration of the quarantine, and we are planning to reschedule TigerFest and Prom.
Our greatest hope is that we will return to campus on March 30. We will continue to communicate any changes or reassessments of the situation. Please be in prayer for those affected by this virus. We rest in Psalm 46:1: "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble."
Thank you for your full cooperation, patience, and understanding as we support the well-being of our community.
To God be the glory,
Dr. Jeff D. Williams
